Inspiration
It has been rough. We are not allowed to see friends and family and we are forced to stay home. Compromises had to be made to keep others safe. We believe quality healthcare should not be one of the compromises. So we built an app that allows patients to directly contact doctors to get prescriptions. It reduces contact, and it frees up valuable time for the already overworked medical staff.
What it does
It is an android app that allows patients to contact doctors directly through an app that stores info about prescription through a database.
How we built it
We used Android Studio for the front end and Firebase for the backend and lots of youtube videos and searching on google.
Challenges we ran into
It is the first Hackathon experience for 3 of our 4 members. Naturally, we were very passionate about learning and decided to make a project about things we don't know (Android Programming, and Database Programming). None of us had any Android Programming, and Database Programming skills so it was definitely a fun challenge to learn both in just 40 hours.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Learned Basic Android Studio and successfully made a simple app.
- Made 2 user Interfaces. One for Patient and another for Doctor
- Learned Database Programming in 40 hours
- Learned how to talk to a database inside an android app.
- Learned to start an android process(eg. when login is successful we start running the DoctorActivity class).
What we learned
- Android Studio
- Database Programming/XML
- Using Firebase
- GitHub ## What's next for Health Android App For The New Age of Disconnection We want to further develop the back end of the app so that the user can start storing data. We ran out of time unfortunately. We also want to use the google Voice-to-text API to allow users to record voice memos to allow better communication between the patients and doctors.
