Inspiration

Our inspiration for building HealHorizon was to ensure that people always can have a voice and an opportunity to express themselves in a way that they find difficult in person to do.

What it does

HealHorizon is a messenger application that anonymously connects people with each other and allows them to talk about what they might be going through safely, comfortably, securely, and privately.

How we built it

We used node.js for the backend with a react front-end. In order to securely maintain a database of users, we utilized Firebase services.

Challenges we ran into

Formatting the website was a big issue, but an even bigger issue was implementing a database system that securely kept track of users and their information while also allowing them to remain anonymous. Firebase was a great tool for overcoming this.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

First hackathon project that ended up being an expansive project that utilized tools unfamiliar to us. We learned back-end server management and how to maintain engines in order to randomly search for users globally to connect them with one another.

What we learned

As previously mentioned, we learned a lot of about react and its component management system, and node.js’s ability to handle and create servers.

What's next for HealHorizon

Implementing a better user experience, consisting of a finer UI for users. A primary goal is to polish the search engine and use this as the main method of connecting people instead of the room ID method. We will continue to learn more about react and its components in order to optimally achieve this.
