Healer: Pioneering Environmental Accountability
Idea & Inspiration
The idea is to build a platform that would enable organizations to monitor processes associated with GHG emissions. It involves IoT integration with blockchain for smart project solutions. It would bridge Blockchain technology with the great cause of Climate change.
What it does?
Healer offers smart project solutions, ensuring transparent and efficient management of environmental processes by providing organizations with a comprehensive platform to monitor and manage processes associated with GHG emissions. Through IoT integration and blockchain technology, our solution enables real-time tracking, analysis, and optimization of environmental processes. Additionally, it catalyzes raising public awareness about climate change, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
Here's what it does:
- The Organizations can create projects and await Admin approval.
- The Devices can be set up in premises that send the sensor's reading periodically.
- The participants can create a monitoring report by accumulating the sensor results.
- Once the Admin / Validation & Verification Bodies (VVBs) approve, Carbon Emission Tokens (CET) are issued.
- Emissions tokens would be a climate debt to the project.
How we built it
We build Healer on the top of the Lisk L2 Testnet.
Architecture & User Flow
Available User Roles
- Organization – Company or other organization generating, quantifying, and reporting GHG emissions.
- VVB (Validation & Verification Body) – Independent third party who audits the organization’s critical documentation, MRV data and sources, and GHG inventories.
- Registry – The role responsible for publishing policies, creating tokens, and approving/rejecting GHG sources added by the organization.
Important Documents & Schemas
- Organizational Project Profile: Defines project goals, scope, stakeholders, and timelines.
- Device Schema: Specifies device components, functionalities, and id (wallet address).
- Reporting Metric Schema: Metrics and data attributes for recording sensor data. It reports Co2 (Carbon dioxide), CH4 (Methane), N2O(Nitrous oxide), and Co2e (Carbon dioxide equivalent) in metric tonnes (mt).
- Monitoring Report: Collection of emission data from sensors and project attributes to help calculate project emissions.
Token(Carbon credit)
Carbon Emission Token (CET) is equivalent to 1 metric ton of CO2e emission.
Carbon Equivalent calculations: One kg of CO2 equivalents is equivalent to the effect of one kg of CO2 emission. The emission of 1 kg of nitrous oxide (N2O) equals 298 kg of CO2 equivalents, and the emission of 1 kg of methane (CH4) is equal to 25 kg of CO2 equivalents.
Total Co2e (mt) = CO2 (mt) + 298 * N2O (mt) + 25 * CH4 (mt)
Here's how the user flow works:
- The organization starts with creating a Project.
- Admin/VVB approval: The project is approved through validation and verification.
- The Organization installs IoT devices around their project to send sensor data.
- Sensor periodically sends emission data.
- The data is collated to present the emission data for the project.
- The Admin/VVBs verifies the report and approves it.
- CET is minted and transferred to the Project participant, the amount is proportional to the emissions.
UI/UX
The frontend interface was developed using modern web technologies including React and typescript, providing a user-friendly and intuitive experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced was designing an IoT system that instills confidence in climate change initiatives while ensuring ease of use and accessibility.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have successfully launched Healer, bringing environmental accountability to the forefront. Our robust system, integrating IoT and blockchain, ensures efficient monitoring.
