Inspiration

As a student that knows very little about not only the healthcare industry but also the drugs and prescriptions that have been given to use to use. We wanted to leverage the power of AI to help us take control of our lives.

What it does

The project has multiple facets that are all focused on helping potential customers understand their situation. These tools include recording and summarization of essential points of conversations with your doctor and a tool that leverages GPT-3.5 to help a user understand at a fundamental level what each drug prescribed to them by their doctor is meant to accomplish. For our non-AI tools, we have mobile records that allow a customer to carry all of their important medical records safely on their device. We also have a prescription tracker that helps users maintain a working list of all the prescriptions they need to stay on top of and when.

How we built it

The mobile application was built in the React Native Library to ensure cross-capability for many users' devices. The backend is operated in python using flask. The backend stores user information and communicates with our AI models.

Challenges we ran into

We had to change projects about 6 hours in due to an issue with a raspberry that kept us from being to use RFID cards to conveniently transfer hospital records. We quickly got back on our feet though and changed focuses along a similar thinking track for our current project. We additionally ran into a major problem with Iphone not allowing connections to unsecured URLs, which made combining frontend and backend very slow until we discovered a workaround in Python.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One of our members celebrated her first hackathon! We learned how to use React Native over the course of a weekend, while quickly responding to challenges that we faced as a team. We completed well beyond our minimum viable product for our final idea.

What we learned

Learned how to apply the concepts of Agile Development and we learned the ins and outs of the healthcare industry through a project that solves issues we have felt before as students.

What's next for MedMate

We want to leverage the power of RFID to standardize filling out hospital forms and expand our record keeping abilities. We also want to help users know when their prescriptions are getting low and when they need to go back to the doctor before they can get them filled again.
