Inspiration
I was greatly motivated to develop a solution that could have a good effect on the wellbeing of those close to me since I have seen the difficulties associated with mental health in their life. I became motivated to help in any way I could to lessen the suffering of people with mental illnesses and improve their general quality of life.
What it does
HEAL, a privacy focused mood tracker and journal, allows its users to track their mood at any time of the day for them to look back at later. This feature allows its users to understand their own feelings and triggers which can help them in the future to avoid certain emotions. Apart from the mood journal, HEAL provides a subtle page for its users to calm down on, this page contains a drawing grid for them to release their stress.
How we built it
Project HEAL was made entirely from Flutter, a native ui app development language. The initial mockups were made with Figma and the details were then transferred into code to be made into an application.
Challenges we ran into
The greatest challenge I had was probably building a complete app with a polished UI in less than 36 hours. There was little time for mistakes or lengthy revisions because to the short time restriction, which necessitated a concentrated and rigorous approach.
What we learned
I dug into the field of mental health while creating my mood tracker/journal app, researching the deeper details and complexities of many mental health issues. This experience has made me more aware of the struggles that those with these diseases deal with on a daily basis and the value of having a trustworthy tool to monitor and manage their mental health. I also gained knowledge about current approaches and procedures in the area of mental health, which I used to build the features and functioning of my app.
What's next for HEAL
For the future of HEAL, I plan on incorporating a plethora of features that one can find by going to a in-person therapist. Having your own private digital therapist that can do equivalent to a traditional therapist would be effective in many ways. But for now after finishing this project, I want to appreciate that my app could play a small role in helping individuals navigate their mental health journeys with more clarity and support.
