Inspiration

In the past few years, there has been a substantial increase in the number of depression and anxiety cases. People keep on chasing for things without stopping and introspecting what we are truly looking for. People have become unaware of their own feelings. Moreover, The Covid pandemic came as a hurricane in our lives and has messed up people’s minds to a great extent. The loneliness, isolation and trauma has made people depressed and mentally unhealthy. Also, Adolescents and young adults are the major sectors contributing to increasing cases. Possible explanation is the concurrent rise in social media and cyberbullying. Therefore, we thought of making a mental health website Heal & Help to help people in need and make the world a happier place to live. We made a solution to this existing problem and worked to build a web application that focuses on mental health issues these days.

What it does

The website has various sections: Home page: It gives an overview of our website and what all it includes. It also has a form for booking an appointment with a mental health expert.

  1. Psychological Assessment: We made a form where the user answers questions accordingly and we will calculate their level of mental illness and how they should proceed further.
  2. Soothe Thyself: Songs and podcasts have a magical effect on us and can calm us. This section has vibe music and podcasts to relax the user’s mind.
  3. Conquering Covid: This section includes blogs and resources for helping fight depression during the covid pandemic.
  4. Chatbot: It has an interactive chatbot which will live chat with our user and listen to them, suggesting them activities based on their feelings and mood.
  5. About us: This includes our team members and their profession.

How we built it

We built the basic layout using Html and used CSS for styling and beautifying our web-pages. Java script was used for making slideshow pictures on our home page. We made our chatbot using python and required libraries and we used Flask for displaying it on the web browser.

Challenges we ran into

  1. We faced a number of problems during the course of making this project. We faced a problem in proper functioning of our slideshow pictures on our home page.
  2. There was a module which was not supported in the latest version of python, so we had to lower it’s version.
  3. We are facing a problem in deploying and integrating our chatbot with the actual website. Right now it is just running on our local host.
  4. Also, embedding a google form to our website was a difficult task and we finally had to use the google form add on to do that.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. We are proud of making a fully functioning website in the span of just 2 days. We can’t believe that we managed to pull off this much weight.
  2. Proper positioning and styling of all html elements was a big accomplishment for us. We were elated when we managed to make and style our chatbot.

What we learned

  1. We didn’t have much experience in making the website but making this project gave us hands-on experience. We learned a lot of new things from positioning of html elements, styling them, linking web pages to making slideshow pictures. We even learned how to make a chatbot using python, flask and Artificial learning.
  2. While finding the content of our website, we realized how much people are going through mentally and what this pandemic has done to the people.

What's next for HEAL & HELP

  1. We are yet to complete the web page for displaying the results and score after taking the psychological assessment test.
  2. We need to figure out how to deploy our chatbot to our website which is right now running on a local host.
  3. We are planning to add a medication section where our website using computer vision will analyze how the user is doing the exercises and suggest changes in postures.
  4. We wanted to add an upcoming meets section where people can get to know and attend sessions related to mental health and build a close-knit community through these meet-up sessions but due to time constraints couldn’t.
