Inspiration EcoConnect was inspired by the need for stronger community collaboration on sustainability initiatives. Observing the disconnect between local NGOs, businesses, and residents highlighted the potential for a platform that fosters engagement and shared responsibility for environmental issues.
What it does EcoConnect aims to be a mobile and web platform that connects local NGOs, schools, businesses, and residents. It facilitates collaboration on sustainability projects addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and 13 (Climate Action), promoting community involvement and eco-friendly practices.
How we built it Currently, EcoConnect exists as a concept, and we envision it using a tech stack that includes React for the frontend and Node.js for the backend. We plan to incorporate features such as a project marketplace, educational resources, and an impact tracking system to enhance user engagement.
Challenges we ran into As a concept, we face challenges in defining the scope and features of the platform. Gathering feedback from potential users and stakeholders has been essential but also difficult, as we seek to balance diverse needs and interests.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We have successfully outlined a clear vision for EcoConnect and identified key features that can make a significant impact. Engaging with community members and organizations to gather insights has been a valuable first step in validating our idea.
What we learned Through our initial research and discussions, we learned the importance of community input in shaping a platform that truly meets user needs. We've also recognized the necessity of building partnerships with local NGOs and businesses to create a robust ecosystem for sustainability initiatives.
What's next for EcoConnect The next steps involve developing a prototype to test our concept and refine our features based on user feedback. We plan to conduct workshops and focus groups to engage potential users further, ensuring EcoConnect evolves into a platform that effectively drives community action toward sustainability.
