Inspiration

As a wrestler, many of teammates had been hit with concussion. It was sad to see them in the sidelines for weeks as if they have been demoted to cheerleader. Understanding that young football players have as much concussions as wrestlers, I could sympathize with them. 'Spear-ramming' or tackling head-on was the number one contributor to their concussions. Our app intends to teach them how to avoid such dire mistake. Or else, it will impact their whole future.

What it does

Develops the habit of tackling head-on. There's a game that will teach how to react when you are about to tackle someone. Another game is for situations when a player did have a head-on collision. To check they are not in risk of concussion, they will play our cognitive puzzle. If they fail, they should see the doctor.

Other features include: how to treat common football injuries and recovery workouts.

How we built it

Android Studio, Sai

Challenges we ran into

Our team had no first-hand experience with football. So, we had to dedicate time to research about it. Also, we wanted to use Arduinos. But, they were unavailable. Like others, time was an issue.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Connecting the app to a webpage. Animations we're tedious but had satisfactory standards.

What we learned

What's next for Heads Up

We want to include Arduino-Bluetooth Connectivity. This feature will alert the coach if one of his players had a huge head-on crash with someone. This is based on a sharp decrease of acceleration using the Arduino's accelerometer.
