Fighter jets use Heads Up Displays (HUDs) to show critical information to a pilot without making them take their eyes off the skies. I want to introduce that same style of information display to my car. Though there have been commercial projects to do this before, none really hit all the points I think would be useful in a car HUD.
How it works
A display mounted to the top of your dashboard reflects key information off of a film attached to your windshield. Information displayed could include any/all of the following:
- Tachometer (RPM)
- Fuel remaining (or better, minutes or miles of fuel remaining)
- GPS navigation information such as direction of next turn, lane to be in, name of next street
- Proximity warning for blind spots
