Car Heads Up Display (HUD)

Display driving info through a military-style Heads Up Display.

Inspiration

Fighter jets use Heads Up Displays (HUDs) to show critical information to a pilot without making them take their eyes off the skies. I want to introduce that same style of information display to my car. Though there have been commercial projects to do this before, none really hit all the points I think would be useful in a car HUD.

How it works

A display mounted to the top of your dashboard reflects key information off of a film attached to your windshield. Information displayed could include any/all of the following:

  • Speed
  • Tachometer (RPM)
  • Fuel remaining (or better, minutes or miles of fuel remaining)
  • GPS navigation information such as direction of next turn, lane to be in, name of next street
  • Proximity warning for blind spots
  • ...?

Unfortunately I'll be out of town the day of the Hackathon, so I need to withdraw from the competition. The project will however continue on, but as an outside effort without the benefit of IoT Hackday. Many thanks to Patrick Delaney for the encouragement and assistance. Best of luck to the rest of the teams. I'll be interested to see what you all come up with!
