In summary, the Hazardous Driving Detection and Warning System integrates the Electronic Stability Control system (available on all new passenger vehicles by 2012) with the DSRC.  The HDDWS enables evaluation of the degree to which hazardous conditions exist in the way the vehicle is being driven (independent of whether they are due to the driver, road conditions, or other factors).  When appropriate the HDDWS can provide a response to the driver as well other drivers in proximity that is commensurate with the degree of hazard being presented to other vehicles.  Through the DSRC, the HDDWS can alert other vehicle drivers to the presence, direction, distance and other appropriate information of a hazardous situation in their vicinity and thus enabling them to take precautionary steps as appropriate.
