Inspiration: I have severe hayfever. Every spring, while my friends were outside, I was stuck indoors — eyes watering, sneezing constantly. I tried everything: pills I kept forgetting, sprays that felt clinical, balms that irritated my skin. Nothing worked. Then I found out the NHS already recommends applying a balm around the nostrils to trap pollen. The idea was medically validated — nobody had just built a great product around it. So I did.
What it does: HayBloc is a natural pollen barrier balm applied beneath the nose before going outside. Beeswax traps pollen, Vitamin E and D protect the skin, and rosemary oil soothes inflammation. No chemicals. Just nature doing its job.
How I built it: I researched natural ingredients, formulated multiple prototypes in my kitchen, and ran a blind test with ten hayfever sufferers. Every single one said it worked. I also began building an audience through a YouTube series documenting the entire process from scratch.
Challenges I ran into: Formulating a balm that was effective, skin-safe, and aesthetically appealing took significant trial and error. Understanding MHRA registration requirements as a 15 year old with no prior regulatory experience was a steep learning curve.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of: A working prototype. A blind test with 100% positive results. A growing audience and waitlist before a single unit has shipped. And a clear path to MHRA Class I medical device registration.
What I learned: That a good idea isn't enough — execution, credibility, and distribution matter just as much. The NHS validation gave me confidence the concept was sound. The blind test taught me the product could stand on its own.
What's next for HayBloc: MHRA registration, first production run, and Spring 2026 launch. Long term — HayBloc → HeatBloc → FreezeBloc. A seasonal wellness brand that follows people through every season, not just spring.
