Inspiration
Inspired by mental health needs and the popular app BeReal, we thought it was important for users to have a space to look inwards and reflect on their feelings and support themselves.
What it does
It prompts users to say how they're doing and complete one self care activity. Once that is completed, we have a large range of other activities available to browse.
How we built it
We used the Android Firebase hackpack to get started, working in Android Studio with java and xml files. We did everything from mental health research to fullstack development.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up the necessary tools was a large barrier coming from different platforms. Android Studio was also a learning curve since we are both complete add dev beginners, and had never used any similar IDE.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a finished product that's straight-forward yet effective and has the potential to help people much like ourselves.
What we learned
We learned about the full process of brainstorming ideas, conceptualizing a product, and implementing those ideas into a completed interface.
What's next for HAY (How Are You?)
We'd love to do more research and include accessible citations for those sources, and make the UI more engaging and easy to use. We'd like to add more tools for users such as goal tracking and achievements for continued self care.
