Inspiration

In today's fast-paced world, finding a moment of true peace is a luxury many cannot afford. Inspired by the healing power of nature and the concept of "Digital Therapeutics," we wanted to create a sanctuary that is accessible to anyone with a headset. The goal was to build not just a game, but a "Prescription for Peace"—a place where users can disconnect from noise and reconnect with themselves through the beauty of Hawaii.

What it does

"Hawaiian Relaxation Retreat" is an immersive WebXR experience designed to combat stress through virtual travel. Users are guided through a serene arrival—from a seaplane landing to a canoe ride, walking a garden path, and finally resting in a private bungalow. The experience culminates in a guided "Body Scan" meditation.

How we built it

We built the core experience using A-Frame (WebXR) for cross-platform compatibility. The immersive environments were generated using Skybox AI, allowing us to rapid-prototype 8K 360° worlds. The audio landscape was carefully layered with original compositions and user-scripted meditations voiced by ElevenLabs AI. We implemented a custom Gaze-Based interaction system to ensure the experience remained hands-free and accessible, removing the friction of controllers for a more meditative state.

Challenges we ran into

Optimizing high-resolution 8K assets for smooth playback in a mobile VR browser was a key challenge. We had to balance visual fidelity with performance, implementing strategic scene management to unload assets when not in use.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a cohesive, "Premium" feeling experience using entirely generated assets (AI Skybox + AI Voice). We are particularly proud of the effortless "Look-to-Move" navigation, which makes the journey feel magical. Accessible Design: Designing an interaction system that requires no controllers—just your eyes—making it accessible to anyone who can wear a headset. AI Asset Orchestration: Blending AI-Generated Art (Skybox) and AI-Generated Voice (ElevenLabs) into a coherent, warm, and human-feeling experience.

What we learned

Seamless Gaze Navigation: Creating a fully "hands-free" UI that feels natural and responsive. Persistent Logic: Implementing state management that remembers user preferences (like audio settings) even as they traverse different scenes. WebXR Accessibility: Delivering a high-fidelity VR experience directly in the browser (Meta Quest default browser) without requiring app text installs. State Management in VR: How to maintain audio/visual continuity across scene transitions in a stateless web environment. Resource Management: The critical importance of optimizing assets for cloud headers and headset performance.

What's next for Hawaiian Relaxation Retreat

We plan to introduce Hand Gesture Recognition: Implementing WebXR Hand Tracking to allow users to "grab" door handles or "wave" to interact. Interactive Locomotion: Moving beyond teleportation hotspots to continuous movement guided by head orientation. Dynamic Physics: Allowing users to physically open doors or push objects in the environment.
