💡 Inspiration

Over 55 million people worldwide live with dementia, Alzheimer's, or mild cognitive impairment (MCI). For seniors and their loved ones, daily life can become disorienting and stressful. Most productivity and reminder apps on the market today are cluttered with tiny fonts, complex nested menus, and jarring alerts that trigger anxiety and confusion.

We wanted to build Haven: a calm, dignified, and sensory-friendly assistive memory companion. Haven empowers patients to navigate their day with confidence and joy while allowing family caregivers to coordinate care, monitor adherence, and share cherished memories seamlessly in the background.

Haven provides a gentle, accessible web companion tailored specifically for neurodiverse seniors and patients recovering from stroke, Parkinson's, and memory loss:

☀️ My Day & Adaptive Care Hub: Clear, visual timeline reminders for morning, afternoon, and evening routines with disease-specific modes (Parkinson's tremor pacing, Stroke aphasia speech boards, and MCI focus checklists).
🧩 10 Therapeutic Cognitive Mini-Games: Evidence-based cognitive exercises including Picture Matching, Familiar Faces Quiz, Rhythm Tap, and Calming Sensory Art designed to maintain neuroplasticity.
📸 Family Memory Album & People Directory: Visual milestone cards with one-tap voice narration (Web Speech API) and emergency contact speed-dial.
🛡️ Caregiver Oversight Dashboard: Real-time medicine adherence monitoring, routine updates, and memory management for family members.
🌐 Accessible & Multilingual: Built-in real-time A− / A+ font scaling and support for 7 languages with zero sensory overload.

👑 RevenueCat SDK Integration

Monetization in healthcare and assistive technology must be compassionate, transparent, and frictionless. We integrated the RevenueCat Web SDK (@revenuecat/purchases-js) to power subscription tiers and entitlement gating:

Entitlement-Gated Care Tiers:
- Free Tier: Essential daily timeline reminders and basic cognitive tools.
- Haven Plus (haven_plus): Unlocks all 10 therapeutic mind games, unlimited photo albums, and full caregiver dashboard analytics.
- Haven Family (haven_family): Enables multi-caregiver syncing (up to 5 family members), shared memory albums, and priority alerts.
Transparent In-App Checkout: Designed a soothing, accessible Paywall modal featuring monthly vs. annual billing toggles, savings calculations, and an auto-fill test card option (4242 •••• 4242) for instant evaluation.
Automatic 30-Day Free Trial: New users receive a complimentary 30-day trial gift upon their first visit with zero upfront friction.

🛠️ How We Built It

Frontend: React 18, TypeScript, Vite 5, Tailwind CSS, and Lucide React.
Subscriptions & Entitlements: RevenueCat Web SDK (@revenuecat/purchases-js).
Database & Auth: Supabase (PostgreSQL with Row Level Security) with an offline-resilient client fallback.
Accessibility & Audio: Web Speech API for voice story narration and Web Audio API for tactile audio cues.
Internationalization: react-i18next covering 7 global and regional languages.
Deployment: Vercel CI/CD with automated production bundling.

🧗 Challenges We Ran Into

Designing for Low Cognitive Load: Finding the balance between rich functionality and zero cognitive overwhelm was tough. Every button, contrast ratio, and font hierarchy had to be tested to ensure high readability without looking like clinical software.
Seamless Web Monetization: Integrating the RevenueCat Web SDK required managing entitlement state changes reactively across multiple care views and ensuring the app remains 100% resilient if evaluated offline or in demo mode.

🏆 Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

Implemented 10 fully interactive therapeutic mini-games that adapt to fine motor and cognitive capabilities.
Seamlessly configured RevenueCat entitlements so features unlock dynamically across patient and caregiver sessions.
Created an end-to-end tactile audio narration engine using native browser speech synthesis without requiring third-party heavy audio libraries.

How easy and robust it is to use RevenueCat to manage complex cross-platform entitlements and subscription state on the web.
The critical importance of web accessibility (a11y) standards, high contrast ratios, and reassuring micro-interactions when designing for elderly and cognitive-impaired users.

Hardware integration with ambient smart displays and pill dispensers.
AI-driven conversational reminiscence therapy using voice clones of family members.
