Inspiration
I wanted to create a safe digital space that combines mindfulness journaling, and reflection in a way that feels natural for gen-z and everyone. Traditional journaling apps often feel static, while meditation apps can feel disconnected from day-to-day emotions. With Haven, I have designed something that listens, reflects, and grows with you.
What it does
Haven is a mindfulness companion that helps you:
- Vent: Share your feelings freely and receive empathetic reflections seemlessly.
- Journal: Capture daily thoughts and get summaries, trends, and reflection prompts.
- Meditate: Enjoy short, guided breathing and grounding sessions tailored to your mood.
- Visualize: With Imagen 3, your moods and journal entries transform into calming, aesthetic visuals --- like a living diary of your mind.
How I built it
- Frontend: Simple, intuitive web app interface for frictionless journaling and meditation built on react.js and tailwindCSS.
- AI Core:
- Gemini API for reflections, journaling insights, and meditation guidance. Additionally for turning moods and themes into beautiful visuals.
- Storage: Local JSON for securely and privately saving journals and tracking progress.
- Integration: Gemini generates scripts for meditations and summaries, which feed into prompts for mood-aligned visuals.
Challenges I ran into
- Designing AI prompts that felt empathetic instead of robotic
- Balancing scope --- building something demo-ready while keeping ambitious features
- Making visuals both fast enough for a hackathon and relevant to the user's feelings
- Ensuring journaling data felt safe and private.
Accomplishments that I proud of
- Creating a working end-to-end loop: vent → reflect → meditate → visualize.
- Building a product that feels warm, approachable, and human.
- Integrating Gemini seamlessly into one cohesive user experience.
- Designing Haven as both a practical tool and a beautiful demo.
What I learned
- The power of carefully crafted prompts in shaping user experience.
- How text and visuals can reinforce mindfulness when combined thoughtfully.
- The importance of designing for trust and emotional safety when working with personal data.
- That even in a short hackathon sprint, small details (tone, formatting, visuals) can make or break the vibe.
What's next for Haven
- Expanding beyond a web app into a mobile app for daily journaling and meditation.
- Building long-term mood analytics so users can track growth over months.
- Offering custom visual themes for personalized meditation environments.
- Exploring integrations with wearables for real-time stress detection + guided relief.
