Haven - Travel with confidence
What inspired us: All 4 of us have experience traveling internationally, and we have all reported feeling levels of stress when planning a trip. We thought being able to take this pain point and using it to service a group in this context was familiar to what we know, given the time constraints.
We wanted to design a solution that supports mental clarity, allows users to ease into technology, and provides inclusive guidance for those navigating unfamiliar places.
Features:
- AR Scan: Scans surroundings and provides context overlays
- Voice Assistant: Navigate hands-free with calming prompts and reminders
- Mood-Based UI: Toggle between low-stimulation or simplified modes
- Quiet Spot Recommendations: Find calm places nearby when overstimulated
- AI Reminders: Get timely nudges like “Last train in 20 mins” or “This area is getting crowded”
- Offline Support: Access translations, safety info, and location details even without internet
- Community Tips: Discover locally submitted advice for hidden spots and cultural etiquette
What we learned:
- For international traveling, more resources than we expected are used to plan a single trip.
- Designing for a specific group in a time constraint raises many questions.
- Majority of survey participants are resistant to AR/VR technologies in the travel space.
How we built Haven:
- Designed in Figma
- Created personas and journey maps from user interviews and Google Forms
- Synthesized findings into affinity diagrams and pain point clusters
- Designed low-fidelity wireframes for content understanding
Challenges we faced:
- Balancing calm design with feature-rich tools was tough
- Designing for neurodivergent edge cases meant rethinking navigation and onboarding flows
- Creating a solution that’s useful both offline and in real-time
- Synthesizing broad user data into clear priorities during a tight timeline
