Inspiration
We built our project based on Track 2, which consisted of developing an application that told an interactive story, where the user was allowed to make decisions. We got our inspiration from the cinematic theme of SparkHacks, we chose to build an interactive blog that progresses through a dark story with multiple endings.
What it does
Our application allows the user to make a choice on what they will do next. This involves decisions like, 'Uncover mirrors', 'Investigate noises' etc. The blog spans 7 days, with the last day showing the end of the story.
How we built it
We built it using HTML/CSS and JavaScript. Parts of the blog have audio, videos, and images to make the experience more immersive.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenges we ran into were with styling and graphics. It was difficult to come up with one style that would look good on all the pages; it took a lot of experimenting to come up with the final style. Finding short audio/video clips relevant to the story was also difficult; we tried to use AI-generated video and pictures as well.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We worked well as a team and finished the project on time. The UI is much better than we had expected it to be.
What we learned
This project required a lot of planning, with regard to the story we were using, the way it would progress, how many choices the user would have, etc. We had not expected it to be such a major part of the project.
What's next for Haunted-Blog
Initially, we wanted to have a backend component that would use AI-generated audio logs and randomly play them over each blog post. We planned on using Aedify to deploy the website after that. We weren't able to do it because of time constraints, but we would like to improve on the project after the Hackathon
