Inspiration
Freight brokers spend countless hours on repetitive tasks such as finding carriers, negotiating rates, tracking shipments, and responding to customer inquiries. We saw an opportunity to use AI agents to automate these workflows, allowing brokers to focus on building relationships and growing their business instead of managing administrative work.
What it does
Haulia is an AI-powered freight brokerage platform that acts as a virtual operations team for brokers. It automates carrier sourcing, load matching, quoting, shipment tracking, customer communication, and operational workflows. The platform helps brokers move freight faster, reduce manual effort, and provide better service to shippers and carriers.
How we built it
We built Haulia using modern web technologies, large language models, workflow automation, and logistics industry integrations. The platform combines AI agents, business rules, and transportation data to automate decision-making while maintaining human oversight when needed. We focused on creating a conversational interface that feels natural for brokers and dispatchers.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring accuracy and reliability in a highly regulated industry where mistakes can be costly. We also faced challenges integrating fragmented logistics data sources, handling industry-specific terminology, and building guardrails that keep AI actions safe and compliant.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created AI agents capable of performing real brokerage workflows rather than simply answering questions. We built a platform that can automate multiple stages of freight operations, significantly reducing manual workload and enabling small brokerages to operate more efficiently and competitively.
What we learned
We learned that successful AI adoption in logistics requires more than powerful models. Industry expertise, trust, transparency, and operational safeguards are equally important. We also learned that brokers want AI that collaborates with them rather than replacing them.
What's next for Haulia
Our next step is expanding Haulia into a fully autonomous brokerage operating system. We are adding deeper integrations with transportation systems, enhanced carrier intelligence, automated compliance workflows, and specialized AI agents that can manage increasingly complex logistics operations from end to end.
