Hashify: "Secure Plaintext-to-Hash Converter" The idea for Hashify came when I was learning about hashing during my Cyber Security Analyst course. While attempting to change a default username and password, I encountered the challenge of dealing with hash values for these credentials. This experience sparked the idea to create a tool that could securely convert plaintext into hash values and vice versa.
What I Learned
Cryptography: Recently learned and implemented hashing algorithms like SHA256 and MD5.
Web Development: Applied my knowledge of web development to design the frontend, with support from AI for coding improvements.
Security Best Practices: Focused on securely handling data while enhancing encryption techniques with AI insights.
How I Built It
Backend: Developed with Python (Flask) for processing hashing and decryption.
Frontend: Created using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for a responsive interface, leveraging AI tools to refine the code.
Hashing: Integrated SHA256 and MD5 algorithms using Python's hashlib library.
Tools: Used Jupyter Notebook for testing and prototyping and Sublime Text for development.
AI Assistance: Utilized AI to debug issues, optimize the code, and gain deeper insights into cryptography and web development.
Challenges
Full-Stack Development: Since I have web development knowledge but not full-stack expertise, integrating the backend and frontend was challenging, but AI provided valuable guidance.
Data Size Handling: Ensured the app could process large inputs with the help of AI-driven performance optimizations.
Security: Addressed potential vulnerabilities and ensured secure handling of data with insights from AI tools.
Hashing Knowledge: Recently learning about SHA256 and MD5 required extra effort, with AI aiding in understanding and implementation.
