Did you know that many schools overlook the stories of heroes who fought for a better world? That's what happened to us when we reflected on our school memories and realized that Dolores Huerta's inspiring acts were not part of the curriculum. But rather than just complain, we decided to take action and create our own story of hope.

Introducing Harvesting Hope, a game that immerses you in a world where climate change and pollution threaten everyone's lives. Our goal was to raise awareness about these issues in a way that engages and empowers players to be part of the solution.

While the game is entertaining, we want to remind players that climate change is a serious issue that requires immediate action. So come join us on this journey to harvest hope, and let's make a better world together.

What it does

In Harvesting Hope, the world is in ruins after years of natural disasters. As a survivor in a group of three, you exit your bunker to face a daunting reality: your limited food supply won't last long unless you act fast. With your farmer skills, you must create a stable food source and clean up the area around your bunker to make it habitable.

But it's not just about survival. As you progress through the game, you'll unlock new areas, form lifelong connections with other survivors, and protect your land from those with ill intentions. And as you uncover secrets about the past and how life came to this, you'll realize that the fate of humanity rests on your shoulders. Will you be able to harvest hope in a world that has lost all of it?

How we built it

Our game itself was built using C# in Unity. All of the assets and animations were created in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Aftereffects, and Procreate.

Challenges we ran into

None of us are very familiar with C# or Unity in general so there was a pretty steep learning curve for us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

After facing several setbacks, we refused to give up on our project. It took three attempts before we finally found the right path and started working on the latest iteration at 10pm on a Saturday night. Despite the challenges, we are incredibly proud of the progress we have made so far. Our game is not only a testament to our perseverance but also serves as an educational tool for environmentally friendly farming practices. Through the process of creating this game, we have learned a great deal about sustainable agriculture and we hope to share our newfound knowledge with others. Every aspect of the game, including the art, animations, and assets, was crafted by our team with care and dedication. We are confident that our hard work has paid off and we have created a unique storytelling experience that we can't wait to share with the world.

What we learned

We actually learned a ton about C# and Unity and feel confident in our skills. We also gained better planning and time management skills.

What's next for Harvesting Hope

Currently, only one location is unlockable. In the future, we would like to release updates to unlock all of the areas. We would also like for the two other characters to have more developed roles, one being an explorer, and the other being a gatherer.
