Inspiration

As lovers of fresh produce and a witness to the problem of food waste firsthand, we were inspired to create a solution that would connect local farmers with consumers and distributors in their communities. We wanted to reduce the distance that food travels from farm to table, promote sustainable agriculture, and help small-scale farmers increase their productivity and profitability.

What it does

The platform we developed connects small-scale farmers with consumers and distributors, allowing them to list their products and connect with others in their local communities. The platform includes features such as real-time inventory management, crop forecasting, and supply chain optimization tools. It also offers resources such as training programs, financing options, and marketing support to help farmers increase their productivity and profitability.

How we built it

Our team built the platform using Velo by Wix. We started by designing the template and adding features needed for our App. Then, we ensured the functionalities were integrated as well, integrating features such as e-commerce shop, Harvest Gift Card, and supply chain optimization tools. We also incorporated resources such as training programs, online-sessions, financing options, and marketing support to help small-scale farmers succeed.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced was developing a platform that was easy to use for farmers with varying levels of technological expertise. We had to design a user interface that was intuitive and easy to navigate, while also incorporating advanced features such as inventory management and shopping cart.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have developed a platform that has the potential to make a real difference in addressing issues of food insecurity and food waste. We're also proud of the various features we incorporated, such as real-time inventory management and Agro-shopping, that will help small-scale farmers increase their productivity and profitability.

What we learned

Throughout the development of this project, we learned the importance of collaboration and communication. We also learned how to incorporate advanced features such as real-time inventory management and e-commerce platform, and how to integrate various services and features to provide accurate information to farmers and distributors using Velo by Wix

What's next for Harvest

In the future, we hope to continue improving the platform and adding new features to help small-scale farmers succeed. We also plan to expand our reach to more communities and regions, connecting even more farmers with consumers and distributors in their local areas.
