Inspiration
The Rishi Project convinced us that growing vegetables locally, and even in your own home, is essential for many families to keep a healthy and balanced diet. We thought we could help families streamline this important process with our app.
What it does
Our android app provides consolidated information on many plants, specific to the region selected. There is information provided on watering, planting, and harvesting, among some data points. In addition, the calorie amount per plant is provided so that families can choose what will help them and their diet the most.
How I built it
We used Android Studio, which implements Java, to create the app.
Challenges I ran into
We had some trouble programming a Google Calendar API into the app.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are really proud of making an app that combines all of this essential information in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
What I learned
We learned man new things in Java, which was only a slightly familiar code to most of us. Most importantly, we learned how to use XML files and how to program buttons that would actually work!
What's next for Harvest Helper
We hope to continue our work on the calendar and possibly add a reminder feature that would help families remember to plant certain plants during certain months and then remind them when to harvest those plants.
