Inspiration
Being a huge Harry Potter fan myself, I didn't need much of inspiration to create a lens that takes you back to your childhood.
What it does
This lens takes you down the memory lane using the sorting hat to remind you who you truly are. It shows you the younger version of yourself who was full of life and had stars in their eyes!
How we built it
I started with a 3D render of a sorting hat lookalike which fits the user's hat properly. Then to complete the "Harry Potter" look, I added those round glasses. Lastly to finish it all with a dramatic vibe, I adjusted the lightning and clouds along with everything else.
Challenges we ran into
First off I tried to go with a magical wand or something that can justify this kind of a transformation but I ran into the screen realestate issue where I couldn't place the wand in the way I imagined or in a way that it wouldn't be too distracting but would still play the role it was supposed to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of creating something that each and everyone of us can relate to, with the help of 3D, Face Tracking, Face Meshes, Head Binding, Masking and Tweens.
What we learned
I learned a lot about compression of materials as well as tween and render orders. There were instances when all the objects were kind of overlapping which taught me a lot about arranging and adjust the layers.
What's next for Harry Potter Life
Already started working on another lens for the Harry Potter Universe because now that we have the protagonist, we'll also need the antagonist if you know what I mean :D
