Inspiration

We realized on our own self-growth journey, that we struggled to find a starting point. There are a lot of resources out there and it can be quite overwhelming. Our app therefore is meant solve this problem by providing an easy-to-use interface and beginner's guide to personal growth and empowerment.

What it does

The app has daily challenges meant to aid the user with becoming happy through finding that balance or harmony between the mind, body and soul. As soon as you sign up, the app prompts you with questions to build your profile (interests, goals, personal information). You are then able to access the homepage, where you can view your daily challenges including meditation, storytelling, destress activities, meeting and making new friends in the Harmony community. As you complete activities, you can collect badges and are able to track your progress and milestones. Harmony is a community of strong women and the app allows you to connect with one another through an AI that matches you on a monthly basis with another women (based on similar interests and goals) or by finding one another in the community. The app also encourages discussion through various prompts, ability to start threads and share photos in the feed.

How we built it

We used Figma to build the whole prototype (which resembles the mobile app it would be).

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we ran into was having such a wide scope during the ideation phase of the project. We underestimated how much time each of our components would take because we did dream big. I think this came from wanting the app be an all-in-one.

Another challenge was getting started on the design, as we spent quite a bit of time on planning and gathering materials. As we were a team of two, this meant we really had to pick up the speed when we started designing and creating the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One accomplishment I am proud of is that this is my first hackathon. We are also both proud of the fact neither of us come from technical backgrounds, nor have we ever designed a mobile full app before but we still took on the challenge and completed it. Because we are both from an Arts and Business background, we initially felt discouraged and hesitant to join because we weren't sure if we even had a place since neither of us know how to code. But we feel so accomplished for just participating and going through the various stages in design thinking and seeing this project through.

What we learned

I think we've learnt we have to plan our timeline out more carefully, so that we can dedicate an appropriate amount of time to the design part of the project (not spend too much time in the planning stage). Furthermore, we have to be able to say no to some of the ideas and narrow things down for feasibility and being able to have a realistic scope.

What's next for Harmony

We are looking to partner up with various fitness gurus and dieticians who can provide expertise for the community through tips, stories, personalized workouts and meal plans. Furthermore, we would include a feature to share recipes and favourite dishes.
