Our group has known each other for the better part of a year now, and through our shared challenges, we decided to create Harmony as a reflection of our experiences with anxiety, stress, and burnout.
Inspired by calming water themes – most specifically waves – we used the Arduino UNO R2 Board, the BioAmp ECG Pill Kit, and electrode pads to generate wave visuals in Unity.
Harmony depicts the users brainwaves as the waves in a calming setting. Users can monitor their stress and anxiety levels in a visual, non-quantitative way that could help them relax further.
Working with new hardware, rendering in Unity and formalizing our plan proved to be extremely challenging – a hurdle that actually strengthened our teamwork and resilience. Despite moments of doubt, our mistakes became invaluable lessons, teaching us the importance of trust; and using each other’s strengths as our greatest assets. There were many times our failures weighed heavily on our group, and even many more times we wanted to give up the project entirely.
However, our mistakes are our greatest accomplishments, and our willingness to take a step back to look at the project differently proved to be our greatest asset.
With a deeper understanding of BCI hardware and Unity, we’re excited to explore brainwave inputs further, develop a mobile relaxation app, and incorporate gamified, interactive elements.
We still have many more ideas floating around in our minds, and this is only the beginning of what we could do!
