Inspiration
This application was inspired by a need to find times to get together with our friends and plan events together. Specifically meetings for some of our clubs, or just finding free time conveniently between friends to play video games or get in a group chat together.
What it does
Harmonize gives the user a chance to select a date and times for a potential event. The website then provides a link that the user can send to his/her friends where they can quickly and conveniently fill out the form. At the end, the user gets a nice clean page with total information of who has available time and when.
How we built it
We built this application initially using React for the front-end and Azure Database for the back-end. However, due to some technical difficulties we had to resort to firebase for the back-end.
Challenges we ran into
Initially we created the back-end for the application utilizing Azure Database. At first it worked well but we ran into some critical errors when trying to get the back-end and front-end to communicate and send data between the two so we had to reassess and develop a Firebase back-end to solve our problem.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of how the website has turned out visually, as well as it's overall function and performance. While it does have some further developing required, we are quite happy with the progress made during this hackathon.
What we learned
Overall, we learned a lot during this hackathon. How to communicate over distance and using just online applications as opposed to being around a table collaborating.
What's next for Harmonize
In the future we envision adding further functionality to Harmonize, while still maintaining its ease of use and simplicity. The goal is to have the application be as short and sweet to use as possible, but we would certainly look to advancing the types of graphical representation of data for the user to see.
