Inspiration: The inspiration behind "Hari Hacks" came from our passion for both gaming and programming. We wanted to create a fun and challenging game that could entertain people of all ages while also incorporating elements of learning and problem-solving. Clumsy Bird, a classic and addictive game, served as the foundation for our project, and we aimed to enhance it with unique features and mechanics.
What it does: Hari Hacks is a modified version of the Clumsy Bird game. The objective of the game is to control a bird and navigate it through a series of obstacles by tapping on the screen to make the bird flap its wings. The player earns points for successfully passing through each set of obstacles. However, we took the game a step further by integrating educational questions and challenges between gameplay segments. Players must answer these questions correctly to earn bonus points and power-ups, adding an educational twist to the traditional game.
How we built it: We built Hari Hacks using a combination of programming languages and game development tools. The game's core was developed using Python and the Pygame library, which allowed us to create the 2D graphics, animations, and handle user inputs. We also utilized HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to design a simple and intuitive user interface for menus and question screens. The educational questions and challenges were stored in a database and fetched dynamically during gameplay.
Challenges we ran into: Throughout the development process, we encountered several challenges. One of the main hurdles was designing the gameplay mechanics and balancing the difficulty level to make it engaging for players of all skill levels. Integrating the educational elements seamlessly into the game without disrupting the overall flow was also quite challenging. Additionally, optimizing the game's performance and handling different screen sizes on various devices required careful attention.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are proud to have successfully implemented the educational aspect into the game, turning it into a fun and interactive learning experience. The integration of the database for dynamic questions allowed us to continuously expand the game's content, making it more engaging for players in the long run. We also achieved a well-polished and visually appealing game, creating an immersive experience for players.
What we learned: During the development of Hari Hacks, we learned various aspects of game development, including graphics design, animation, user interface design, and database management. Moreover, integrating educational content into a game taught us the importance of striking a balance between entertainment and learning to keep players motivated and engaged.
What's next for Hari Hacks: Moving forward, we have exciting plans for Hari Hacks. First and foremost, we aim to expand the database of educational questions and challenges, ensuring a wide range of topics to keep players learning while having fun. Additionally, we will work on enhancing the game's visuals and adding more levels with different environments and obstacles. To reach a broader audience, we plan to port the game to mobile platforms and explore opportunities for multiplayer features, allowing players to compete and learn together. We are also open to gathering feedback from users to further improve the game and make it a top choice for both gaming and education.
