Inspiration

We are a group of university students who have a passion for volunteering and giving back to the community. Hence we want to use technical skills we have learned to benefit the people around us and hopefully raise awareness on sustainability and let people know that even little things they do can help sustainability efforts.

What it does

Since it is very difficult to summarise and obtain collective results from quantitative data, we hope to apply AI using natural language processing to turn people's sentiments into numbers and quantitative data with meaning to it. Using data collected from participants' survey, we can find out using our model whether their sentiments towards sustainability efforts have changed. This can help organisations gauge how receptive sustainability efforts are.

How we built it

We created a pre survey and post survey template which participants can answer questions. Our model will analyse sentiments of participants and provide informative results on the sentiments of the general population.

Challenges we ran into

Since the topic is quite specific, it is difficult for us to find a list of keywords relating to sentiment towards sustainability online. Hence we have to do our best to manually come up with keywords to be used in the NLP model.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to convert qualitative user data into meaningful numbers with great accuracy.

What we learned

Even though it is impossible to get 100% accuracy information with qualitative data, wit h time and careful fine-tuning of the NLP model. it is possible to reach closer to 100% which allows raw data to provide greater meaning to the stakeholders.

What's next for HappyThreeFriends

With skills we gained from hack4good, we will continue to join hackathons and we hope that applications we create will be able to impact the people around us. We also hope that NLP which we learned through this hackathon can be used for other aspects of sustainbility projects since it is hard to bring many aspect of it into numbers.
