Inspiration

We noticed a gap in the support available for students with overlooked learning challenges. That led us to focus on Irlen Syndrome, a condition that often goes unnoticed, leaving students struggling in silence. We wanted to create something that not only raises awareness but also directly helps students, parents, and teachers.

What it does

HappyPages is built around three core features. HappyLessons makes lessons more accessible for students by providing color filters, audio options, and an offline-friendly format to support different learning needs. PagePrep helps with organizational skills, preparing students for classes in a way that reduces stress and distraction. HappyParent offers parents resources and guidance so they can better understand Irlen Syndrome and support their children at home and at school. Together, these features create a supportive system where students, parents, and teachers can all easily access resources that help Irlen Syndrome.

How we built it

We focused on inclusivity and accessibility. We designed HappyPages to be offline-friendly so students without reliable internet access could still benefit. We also looked at ways to involve contributors such as doctors, tutors, and small businesses, imagining partnerships that could support students both in the classroom and beyond.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest part was researching and trying to understand what exactly would ease the experience of students with Irlen Syndrome. Because it is often overlooked and misunderstood, information was confusing. We had to carefully read through resources to shape our features in a way that would actually meet students’ needs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of several accomplishments. The creation of a hand-drawn logo gave our project a personal touch. Raising awareness about Irlen Syndrome was another achievement, since it helped bring light to a condition that rarely gets attention. Finally, we are especially proud of designing HappyPages to be offline-friendly, ensuring that accessibility was achieved.

What we learned

Through this process, we learned how deeply Irlen Syndrome can impact a student’s confidence, focus, and academic success. We also discovered how important it is to design technology with inclusivity in mind. Building HappyPages showed us that accessibility is not about adding features on top, but about creating something that works for everyone from the start.

What's next for HappyPages

Moving forward, we want to officially launch HappyPages both online and offline, making it accessible to as many students as possible. We plan to grow partnerships with schools, small businesses, and contributors, while also building awareness campaigns to help parents and teachers recognize the signs of Irlen Syndrome. Our goal is for HappyPages to become a tool that empowers overlooked students and gives them the same opportunities to thrive as anyone else.
