Inspiration

In today's society, many people feel they are not happy. But I believe we are not truly unhappy; we are just overwhelmed. The world is imperfect, and so are humans. My inspiration was to re-examine "happiness" from an animal's perspective—a cat's perspective. To be able to eat, to sleep, to move, and to experience all the bitter and sweet parts of life... that, in itself, is a form of happiness.

Happiness can be someone else ("you"), or it can simply be yourself.

What it does

"Happiness is You" is an AI film that contrasts the complex human search for happiness with the simple, pure state of a cat.

The film opens on a cat sleeping peacefully in the sun. It then travels into the cat's fur, beginning an abstract, energetic journey through light and energy. This journey represents our complex "search" for meaning. The film shows us brief, fragmented memories of "happiness"—a stray kitten being found, being fed, and being played with.

Finally, the journey ends, pulling back out to reveal the cat, perfectly happy, being petted by its human. It suggests that happiness isn't found in the complex search; it is the present moment.

How we built it

I used a complete generative workflow to blend the real with the abstract:

  1. Shot Conception (with Gemini): I conceptualized the visual narrative: "from a cat, into a universe of fur, and back to the cat." I used Gemini to generate the key start/end frames and motion prompts.
  2. Keyframe Generation (with Google Imagen / "NanoBanana"): I used Google's Imagen model to create the high-quality static frames of the cat and the abstract energy.
  3. Video Generation (with Google Veo 3.1): I used VEO to process these keyframes, creating the seamless "zoom-in" and "zoom-out" motion that forms the film's core.
  4. Music Generation (with ElevenLabs): I used ElevenLabs to generate a calm, emotional, and slightly wondrous piano score to guide the viewer's feelings.
  5. Final Assembly (with CapCut): Finally, I used CapCut (剪映) to splice all clips and the music track, ensuring the pacing matched the emotional journey.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was AI's limitations in creating a smooth "journey" through an object. It required many attempts to adjust camera angles and motion prompts, ensuring the transition from the cat's fur to the "energy tunnel" felt fluid and intentional, not like a glitch.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

I am proud that this film visually captures a feeling that is very difficult to describe. That feeling of deep comfort and present-moment happiness—the cat being petted in the sun—is a core human emotion. I am moved that I was able to use AI to present this simple, powerful idea.

What we learned

I learned that AI is not just for creating spectacular new worlds; it is also a powerful tool for re-examining our own world. It can help us find beauty and meaning in simple things, like a cat's fur, and inspire us to think differently about our own lives.

What's next for "Happiness is You"

I will continue to use AI to explore these philosophical, everyday themes. I want to create more works that help people find happiness and peace, reduce anxiety, and appreciate the simple, good moments in life.
