Inspiration
We found inspiration when walking around Worcester and seeing people congregate in specific areas. We think it should be easier for those to find places to meet others and build a more close-knit community.
What it does
Our application allows users to drop a pin wherever they are standing to mark it as a "hangout spot". Once placed, any user can click on that spot to show where you are relative to the desired location.
How we built it
We used leaflet.js to incorporate a map and the user's current location into our application. Django served as the web framework and css/html the front end.
Challenges we ran into
It proved difficult to access the user's current location when it was constantly updating. Also, it was quite difficult managing our time constructively.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our app works the way we wanted to. Where sometimes in the past we have given up and imposed limitations on our apps functionality because we didn't have a good enough grasp on coding, this project proved completely manageable given the time frame.
What we learned
We both are quite new to javascript, which made this project a good diving point into gaining some much needed experience with the language.
What's next for HangOut Finder
Our next hope is to develop our app into a more mobile-friendly version. Otherwise, HangOut Finder is mostly complete.
