Inspiration

I used to play Hangman a lot with my friends when I was in middle school. I was on a FaceTime call with my friend this Friday and I was telling her about this hackathon and how I had no idea what I was gonna build. We started brainstorming but soon got distracted. We started talking about our school and how we used to play hangman a lot. Then it hit her, "Hey, why don't you build hangman for your project?" and so I got inspired to build this project.

What it does

Users have to guess the word by guessing each each letter of the word. There are four categories: TV Shows, Movies, Taylor Swift and Programming. The user gets 10 lives and they lose each life with each incorrect guess. A part of the hangman is drawn as the users guesses incorrectly. When the user uses all of their lives, i.e. when the hangman is complete, the user loses the game. If they guess the word correctly before running out of lives, they win the game.

How we built it

The game is built using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

The most difficult challenge for me personally was to stay up all night to complete building this game. Running into bugs and solving them was definitely challenging as well. But we learned a lot in this process and we couldn't be more thankful!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Solving the bugs and completing the game before deadline is definitely something we're really proud of. we worked for hours on this project and to see it and play with it gives us immense pleasure.

What we learned

How to solve bugs patiently and how to not lose hope even when the deadline is near is a lesson we'll take with us.

What's next for Hangman

We're going to add more categories and more words soon. We're also going to add a 'streak' feature which will keep track of how many time the users have won in a row. We're going to add eye catchy animations for the 'winning' and 'losing' alerts soon too.
