Inspiration
The three of us are roommates, and just before attending PennApps, all of us had to do some shopping in order to prepare for the long journey from Waterloo to Philadelphia. This was a waste of time as we had assignments which were due, classes that needed to be attended, and jobs that needed our applications. It was a mess. That's what inspired us to create handle.
What it does
It saves you time and lets you earn money! The best combination, right? We have divided our user group into 2 groups: Requesters and Deliverers. Requester: A Requester can request a nearby Deliverer to shop for him/her and home deliver the bought goods. The Requester gets his stuff delivered to him more quickly and at a cheaper price than home delivery. Deliverer: A Deliverer has to buy and deliver goods to a Requester if they are near a store/mall. The Requester is paid a commission by the Requester for their service. The Requester gets his goods delivered much more quickly than home delivery. The Deliverer earns some extra $$ while shopping. It's a win-win situation!
How we built it
We built this awesome mobile app using React-native, Google Maps API and Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
Pretty much everything we implemented was a challenge for us as none of us had used any of these technologies anywhere before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of developing our match-making algorithm, which connects the Requester and the Deliverer in the most optimal way possible.
What we learned
We learned how to make mobile apps using React Native and Node.js, and also Ice Skating!
What's next for handle
We plan to make our app more user-friendly, add a ton of new features and help more people save time and earn money!
