Inspiration

The idea for Hand2Hand was inspired by the need for a sustainable and affordable marketplace where people can rent and sell second-hand furniture along with price negotiation facility. We observed that many individuals and institutions have unused items that could benefit others instead of ending up as waste. Our goal was to create a platform that promotes reuse, affordability and accessibility, making essential products available to everyone.

What It Does

Hand2Hand is a rental and resale platform that allows users to:

  • Rent or buy second-hand furniture.
  • Negotiate prices through an AI-powered Price Negotiator chatbot.
  • Find personalized product recommendations based on user preferences.
  • Opt for combo plans and memberships tailored for institutions and organizations.
  • Post bulk product reviews, enhancing credibility for sellers.
  • Seamlessly place orders with a smooth checkout experience.

How We Built It

We used a combination of technologies and frameworks to develop Hand2Hand:

  • Frontend: React.js, Tailwind CSS for a smooth and responsive UI.
  • Backend: Node.js with Express.js for API handling.
  • Database: MongoDB for storing user data and product listings.
  • Chatbot Development: Chatbase for the Price Negotiator chatbot.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Implementing real-time price negotiation within the chatbot was complex. We had to fine-tune the chatbot logic to ensure realistic and dynamic price discussions.
  • User engagement and retention strategies were a key concern. We worked on personalized recommendations to keep users interested.
  • Integrating a seamless payment gateway while ensuring transaction security.
  • Optimizing database queries for faster product search and filtering.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

  • Successfully developing an interactive price negotiation chatbot to make bargaining automated and efficient.
  • Creating an intuitive user interface that enhances the overall shopping experience.
