What inspired our team to make Hand2Hand was the sense of community and the bonding possibilities it could create. In an age where technology often consumes our free time and social media distracts us from forming meaningful friendships, we wanted to break through the awkward “small talk” stage and make connecting with others feel effortless. Whether it’s getting to know nearby neighbors, strengthening family bonds, or connecting with dorm mates, Hand2Hand is designed to handle task requests and exchanges in a way that makes building connections simple and natural.
One thing I learned while building Hand2Hand was the importance of using technology not to replace, but to strengthen real-life connections. Along the way, we gained valuable experience collaborating as a team—peer-checking code, dividing responsibilities, and supporting each other through challenges. We used tools such as GitHub for version control and Live Share to code together in real time, and we also explored the implementation of AI while designing a user-friendly interface that emphasized simplicity and accessibility.
To build our project, we used React and TypeScript for the frontend, which gave us a solid foundation with strong type safety. For UI and styling, we used Chakra UI, which helped us create a clean, responsive, and sleek design. On the backend, we used Elysia and Bun to handle routing and APIs efficiently, while MongoDB managed the storage and retrieval of user requests and tasks. Together, these tools enabled us to create a modern, fast, and reliable web application that makes it easier for people to connect and exchange tasks.
Since this was our first hackathon, one of the biggest challenges we faced was managing our time effectively while learning how to collaborate under pressure. We were also new to AI, so figuring out how to approach it and integrate it into our project was initially overwhelming. Balancing the steep learning curve with the short deadline was difficult, but it pushed us to stay focused, adapt quickly, and make the most of our teamwork. These challenges gave us valuable experience that we’ll carry into future hackathons.
