Inspiration
Our inspiration came from the hackathon's heist theme, our love for hamsters, and wanting to make a fun game with a heist-related name. We were also inspired by 2D top-down like The Escapists and stealth games.
What It Does
Hamster Heist is a local co-op stealth game where two players work together to pull off a museum heist. Players sneak around guards, steal priceless artwork, and try to escape with as much money as possible.
How We Built It
We built the game using Unity and C#, combining programming, game design, and pixel art. We worked together to implement the player controls, co-op systems, enemy AI, stealth mechanics, and game environment.
Challenges We Ran Into
One of our biggest challenges was working with Git. We ran into merge conflicts and issues where things worked differently across our machines. Implementing the enemy AI and co-op systems was also challenging and took a lot of debugging.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
We're proud that we were able to turn many of the ideas and mechanics we discussed into a working game. Despite the challenges, we were able to get most of what we wanted into the final product.
What We Learned
We learned a lot about Unity, game development, pixel art, Git, and working together as a team. We also learned how all these different parts come together to make a complete game.
What's Next for Hamster Heist
We'd like to polish the game, add more levels and difficulty options, and potentially add online multiplayer in the future.
