The Halo Smart Part is a styling tool that makes parting hair fast and easy. With a simple, headband-like design, it saves time and helps achieve clean, even sections for braids or any hairstyle.
Inspiration: Halo SmartPart was inspired by the time-consuming process black women face when it comes to parting process. Parting can make a break a hairstyle, and we wanted to simplify this essential step.
What it does: Our SmartPart device allows users to part their hair without needing the use of a mirror while reducing time and money spent on this important step.
How we built it: We developed Halo SmartPart in stages. We started with styrofoam to get the overall shape right, then created a cardboard prototype. After testing, we finalized a version combining cardboard and wires for durability and functionality.
Challenges we ran into: The main challenge was designing the teeth of the device so they could stand and groove against the scalp for precise parting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are proud that a simple thought has been transformed into a physical product that addresses a real-world problem.
What we learned: This project taught us how to work together as a team and also how to maximize the use of available technology available in product development.
