Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly powerful, yet most modern AI assistants remain heavily dependent on cloud infrastructure, offer limited personalization, and raise serious concerns around data privacy and user control. We set out to explore a fundamentally different approach: building a privacy-first, locally-run AI platform that can truly understand its environment, remember user preferences and context, adapt over time, and grow alongside its user all while keeping sensitive data on-device. Halo is our vision for the next generation of personal AI: an intelligent, modular operating platform that moves far beyond a traditional chatbot.
It combines advanced local reasoning, real-time computer vision (including pupillometry for emotion and cognitive state awareness), long-term personalized memory, form coaching, cybersecurity anomaly detection, and secure desktop control into one cohesive system.
At its core, Halo is designed to be a true digital sidekick proactive, context-aware, and deeply personalized. Whether it’s analyzing your emotional state through subtle pupil changes during a high-stress meeting, detecting anomalous network behavior in real-time, providing form feedback during workouts, or helping draft secure communications based on your unique style and history, Halo aims to anticipate needs rather than simply respond to commands.
We believe the future of AI is not just faster answers it is deeper understanding, continuous adaptation to the individual, and genuine assistance with real-world tasks, all while giving users complete ownership and control of their data. By leveraging Apple Silicon’s unified memory architecture, local multimodal models (MLX), on-device vector databases, and privacy-preserving computer vision, Halo demonstrates what’s possible when AI is built from the ground up to respect user sovereignty.
This project represents the first major step toward a fully autonomous, privacy-native personal AI ecosystem one that doesn’t just serve you, but truly knows you.
