Inspiration
We wanted to create a fun and interactive game that encourages students to explore their school in a creative way. Inspired by GeoGuessr, we thought: what if we could recreate a real-world version using phones, GPS, and custom photo locations? That’s how Hallway Hunt was born — a school-based scavenger-style guessing game for two players using real photos and real locations.
What it does
Hallway Hunt is a 1v1 game where: Player 1 adds photo locations around the school using GPS. Player 2 is shown the photos one at a time and must physically walk to the exact spot. The GPS measures how close each guess is to the original location. Players switch roles, and the one with the most accurate guesses wins! The game runs on a single phone and is designed for students to play by passing the phone between rounds.
How we built it
HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the web interface Leaflet.js to display interactive maps and markers The Geolocation API to track user location with high accuracy
Challenges we ran into
-the location API wasn't very accurate -At the start, the map wasn't working -The UI was terrible
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-a functional map is in our website -the UI is a lot cleaner
What we learned
How to use the Geolocation API and deal with accuracy limits How to load and display local images using JavaScript How to design a multiplayer game experience with a single device
What's next for Hallway Hunt
Add leaderboards and high score tracking Allow players to save and load games Add more game modes, like timed rounds or hidden bonuses Make a QR code version where one player creates a game and others scan to join Improve GPS accuracy feedback and show a minimap for hints
