Inspiration
I wanted to create an interactive Halloween-themed experience rather than a static website with information. The spooky vibe inspired me to design something where users could explore, interact, and be entertained.
What it does
Halloween Hacks is packed with features to celebrate Halloween! It includes:
History Section – Learn about the origins and traditions of Halloween. Forum for Costume Sharing – Users can submit their costume ideas, inspiring others in the community. Costume Suggestion with Facial Recognition – The app scans your face and suggests Halloween costumes for you. Cool CSS Animations – Enhanced with spooky effects to match the Halloween theme. Countdown Timer to Halloween – Know exactly how long until the big night! Halloween-Themed Crossy Road Game – A fun mini-game with a spooky twist. Timeline of Halloween Traditions – Explore how Halloween has evolved over the years. Halloween Playlist – Enjoy classic Halloween tracks as you explore.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the core structure and styling, with Three.js for the 3D animations and Node.js to manage the backend for the forum.
Challenges we ran into
JavaScript gave us some trouble, particularly with timing functions for the countdown. But after troubleshooting, we managed to get it working perfectly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re thrilled with how everything came together and that all the components work as planned. The interactive elements make the site really engaging.
What we learned
We gained hands-on experience with Node.js for building the forum and expanded our JavaScript skills with timing and animations.
What's next for Halloween Hacks
We’d love to add filters to the facial scanner so that when it suggests a costume, it also applies a related filter to the user's face.
