HALES

In the last 20 years, 90% of the major natural disasters have been caused by 6,457 recorded floods, storms, heat waves, droughts and other weather events, a new UNISDR report shows. These disasters have affected millions of people around the world, causing massive destruction and resulting in thousands of fatalities.

While it is impossible to completely avoid these catastrophes, it is possible to minimize their impacts. Our team firmly believes that it can help save lives in the face of floods and shipwrecks. With this in mind, we developed HALES, a revolutionary emergency vest designed to work in these disaster scenarios.

Two of the biggest challenges faced during these tragic events are recovering and rescuing those affected and identifying them amidst the chaos of the wreckage. HALES has emerged as an innovative solution to help the competent authorities rescue as many people as possible, as well as protecting the physical integrity of each of its users.

How will HALES meet these needs?

Integrated GPS: to locate victims;

WebApp: to process data and communicate it to the authorities;

Sound and light signals: to make it easier to identify victims in the face of debris and poor visibility;

Lightweight, buoyant vest: to keep wearers on the surface effortlessly;

Adjustability and ergonomics: to make it easier for everyone to use;

Thermal safety: to protect wearers from low temperatures, preventing hypothermia;

Mesh connection between vests: to allow data transmission between vests, compensating for signal loss.

Inspiration

The implementation of HALES has the potential to save countless lives by making rescues more efficient and safer and to considerably reduce the response time of emergency teams. With this innovation, we aim to make a significant contribution to flood crisis management, making communities more resilient and prepared to face the challenges posed by climate change.
