The Kitchen is a non-profit performance and visual arts space located in Manhattan's Chelsea gallery district that presents work by emerging and established artists in the fields of music, dance, theater, film and video, visual art, and literature. Founded in 1971 by video artists Steina and Woody Vasulka, The Kitchen pushes boundaries of art across disciplines and has served as an important testing ground for the arts community in Lower Manhattan. Known for its commitment to providing instrumental early support for artists who have progressed to later prominence, The Kitchen has been a powerful force in shaping the cultural landscape of New York City and this country for more than four decades. The Kitchen remains committed to bringing together artists from various disciplines to share ideas and collaborate.
