Inspiration
Indonesia's $190B halal food market faces mandatory certification by Oct 2026 (BPJPH), yet fake halal logos flood marketplaces and 65M SMEs can't afford traceability. As students at University of the People, led by Amimul Ahsan ([email protected]), we wanted trust from math, not from a company.
What it does
HalalSphere — Decentralized Halal Integrity Network:
- Producer scans in: register batch on Polygon L2, pin certs to IPFS, print QR
- Auditor multi-sig: 2-of-3 licensed auditors approve on-chain (mirrors BPJPH+MUI)
- Consumer scans out: QR → farm-to-fork timeline + Trust Score 0-100 in <3s, no login, Bahasa
- CertGuard AI: OCR + fraud rules flag expired/duplicate/forged certs
How we built it
Next.js 14 + Tailwind, Solidity 0.8.24 (3 contracts: HalalBatchRegistry, AuditorConsensus, CustodyTransfer), Hardhat, Polygon Amoy testnet, wagmi + RainbowKit, IPFS Lighthouse/Pinata, Supabase cache, Vercel. Gasless meta-tx so SMEs onboard with email. Full proposal PDF attached (Phase 1 submission).
Challenges we ran into
SME wallet UX, IPFS uptime, 24h scope. Solved with email wallets + sponsored gas, dual IPFS + cache, ruthless MVP cut (no token for Sharia compliance, no IoT hardware yet).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Complete on-chain custody design, consumer verifier UX in Bahasa, AI RED vs GREEN demo logic, <Rp15/batch cost, Etherscan-verifiable architecture ready for 24h build.
What's next
Top 30 → ship live MVP in 24h at President University / virtual (International). Pilot 10 SMEs in Cikarang, SiHalal API, Shopee Verified badge, expand to cosmetics/pharma.
