🌍 About the Project – HalalPulse 🥄 Inspiration The idea for HalalPulse started with something simple — eating a durian. As I enjoyed the fruit, I found myself wondering:

"Where exactly did this come from?"

That curiosity led to a bigger thought:

"What if we could trace the entire journey of a product — not just where it came from, but whether it's halal-certified at every step?"

With growing concerns about food authenticity and halal compliance, especially for Muslim consumers, traceability isn't just nice to have — it's essential. That's where HalalPulse was born.

💡 What We Learned The traceability gap in halal supply chains is real — many SMEs don’t have tools to make their certifications transparent to consumers.

Blockchain sounds promising, but without verified data sources, it risks storing unverified claims — so we explored a cleaner, practical alternative using Supabase and Bolt.

We learned that ETL workflows, data validation, and user-friendly dashboards are more impactful than just putting data on-chain.

🛠️ How We Built It We used a combination of tools to go from concept to working prototype:

Frontend: Built with Vite + React + TailwindCSS for a clean, fast user experience.

Backend: Managed using Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, and File Storage).

Automation: We leveraged Bolt to handle data ingestion and validation workflows (e.g. verifying certificate expiry, linking product-to-supplier-to-retail).

Payments (Optional): Revenucat was explored to support paid SME onboarding and certificate submission.

🚧 Challenges We Faced We initially tried using blockchain, but realized that data integrity at entry is still a weak point — even with immutable storage. This changed our focus to verifiable workflows over pure decentralization.

Supabase integration with Bolt required some restructuring, especially when starting with a Next.js setup — we pivoted to a cleaner Vite-based frontend.

Time constraints meant we had to scope tightly — so we focused on building consumer trust through transparent data, instead of full admin control or multi-region integration.

🙌 The Impact HalalPulse offers a meaningful solution to a real problem: ✅ Consumers get confidence that products they consume are truly halal. ✅ SMEs get a simple way to show transparency, build trust, and avoid compliance issues.
