Inspiration

  • Current cash risks and difficulties during Hajj
  • Provide Hajjis with a solution to how they use their money during Hajj
  • Reduce the risks associated with Hajjis such as carrying cash on them or having big amounts of money on their credit cards and the risk of loosing the credit card or loosing the money or even theft while in hajj or in hotels
  • Help increase the possibility or the chance of purchase by Hajjis in Saudi Arabia thus helping the economy by elevating hajji expenditure
  • Make this option part of the Hajj workflow (من ضمن المسار الالكتروني للحج)

What it does

  • An online portal that allows Hajjis to formerly register for a hajj e-wallet. Once the hajji details are recorded and they meet all of the fields and requirements (such as filling their visa details and their personal details) the order is processed by the the collaborating Saudi bank. If the requirements are met, the hajji is informed with an email.
  • There are two categories of hajjis, those who want a virtual card and those who want a physical (traditional) card.

---->Hajjis who want a virtual card:

  • Upon entering Saudi if the hajji requested a virtual credit card they are sent a link to the virtual card where they can download a link to the virtual card.
  • Hajjis who are using a virtual card can log in to their country's bank account and transfer to their Saudi card normally at any time after registration

---->Hajjis who want a physical card:

  • If the Hajji requested a hard copy of the credit card they are informed to make their way to the closest collaborating bank where they are able to collect their cards.
  • If they wanted to deposit more cash they would need to go back to the bank and deposit more cash or deposit by his credit cards

  • After the Hajj season is over, and if there is money available on the card, the Hajji can request to return the cash at the bank if they had a physical card or they can request (through the website where they registered) for a money refund. This can be done through a western union bank transfer that the bank can take care of during the hajj season)

  • The cards acts exactly like a normal Saudi card. It has a pin code so only the hajji can purchase with it.

  • The hajji will be given a personal automatically created ID number, this number including the visa details will be used to create the IBAN number which will be placed on the card.

How we built it

  • We will build a portal that can later on be implemented on an official party's website in charge of hajj. The portal will have a registration page where the hajji will enter their personal details including the visa details. The visa details will be used as an identification. The hajji will be given a personal automatically created ID number, this number including the visa details will be used to create the IBAN number which will be placed on the card.

Challenges we ran into

  • Restrictions in current regulation for activate and usage of ATMs cards within Saudi Arabia.
  • Hajji needs to have a hajj visa to sign up for an e-wallet

- hajji who wants a physical copy of the card has to go to a Saudi bank . We can have the bank in the airport for the time of hajj but it will be very crowded

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • This will help the economy of Saudi because it will make the process of payment easier for hajjis and some restrictions are removed such as currency exchange

- An innovative idea that has not be implemented before

What we learned

  • Good team work collaboration
  • Time management with other team members
  • New ideas about Hajj that we didn't know about
  • Develop an idea from scratch even with restrictions because we know that the hajji needs this service
  • When you make things easier for the customer there is a big change they will purchase products, so by making paying easier we are driving the hajji to purchase more and help the economy

What's next for Hajj e Wallet

  • This service can be implemented by the hajj organizers who use the hajj e-path system( المسار الالكتروني للحج)
  • When the visas are provided to the hajjis overseas they are informed of this service and are given a link to create an account. So this e-wallet will be part of the workflow of the hajj season's workflow in other countries around the world.
