Inspiration

Our inspiration came from a simple yet common frustration: choosing the right haircut without knowing how it would look. Many people experience anxiety before a haircut because they can’t visualize the result or fear it won’t suit them. We wanted to eliminate that uncertainty and revolutionize the salon experience using a smart and seamless mobile platform. We envisioned an app where users can explore styles, discover salons, and book confidently — all in one place.

What it does

Hairvana is a mobile application that lets users explore various hairstyles, browse salon profiles, view stylist information, check availability, and instantly book appointments. It simplifies the grooming experience with an intuitive interface, personalized preferences, and direct salon communication — offering both users and salon owners a smarter, more connected service.

How we built it

We used:

  • Flutter for cross-platform mobile development
  • Node.js+ postgres for backend APIs and salon management
  • Supabase for authentication and real-time data sync
  • 21st.dev for prototyping and UI/UX design
  • Bolt.new for rapid prototyping and testing within the hackathon

Challenges we ran into

  • Matching hairstyles with salon availability and skill sets
  • Building a smooth booking workflow without overwhelming the user *Coordinating real-time availability across salons and stylists *Balancing the needs of end users with those of salon administrators *Delivering a stable experience under time constraints

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Launching a working prototype with a clean, user-focused interface
  • Designing an intuitive interface that users loved during our testing phase
  • Building a scalable backend to manage salons and appointments efficiently
  • Delivering a tech-forward solution to a widespread real-world problem *Solving a real-world problem with an accessible and stylish solution

What we learned

*Strengthened our understanding of full-stack mobile app architecture. *Improved our UI/UX design process through iterative prototyping

  • Improved our collaboration process across design, development, and integration. *Learned how to deliver quality and consistency under pressure. *Validated our concept through early feedback and functional testing
  • Validated the importance of user feedback early in the design process

What's next for Hairvana

  • Add beard and makeup features lists.
  • Expand to include hairstylists' portfolios and customer reviews
  • Launch a beta version and onboard real salons in our local region *Expand personalization features and user history tracking
  • Explore partnerships with beauty influencers and hair product brands
