Inspiration

After 25 years as a professional hair colourist and Technical Director, I realized that salons lose valuable technical knowledge every day.

Appointments are saved, but the reasoning behind colour decisions, formulas, consultations and client history is rarely preserved.

I started building HairCoPilot to solve this problem.

What it does

HairCoPilot is an AI-native operating system for professional hair salons.

It combines AI consultations, appointment scheduling, Formula Builder, education, client management and technical memory in a single workspace.

Instead of acting like a chatbot, HairCoPilot continuously builds knowledge from every consultation and makes it available for future decisions.

How we built it

HairCoPilot evolved alongside OpenAI models.

The first prototype started with GPT-4o.

As newer models became available, we expanded the platform from AI consultation into a complete salon workspace.

During OpenAI Build Week we used GPT-5.6 and Codex to strengthen security, improve the architecture and begin migrating the backend from WordPress to a dedicated Node.js service.

Challenges

The biggest challenge was designing AI that supports professionals without replacing their expertise.

HairCoPilot must remember context, keep technical consistency across appointments and remain fast enough for real salon workflows.
