Inspiration
African culture is rich with oral traditions, storytelling, and riddles that have historically been used to transmit knowledge, wisdom, and values across generations. However, much of this heritage risks being lost as younger generations increasingly interact with digital technologies rather than traditional storytelling environments.
HadithiAI was inspired by the idea of preserving and revitalizing African storytelling traditions using modern artificial intelligence. The goal was to create an interactive AI system capable of narrating cultural stories, generating riddles, and engaging users through natural voice interaction.
By combining real-time AI voice technology with cultural storytelling, HadithiAI aims to make African folklore accessible, interactive, and engaging for learners everywhere.
What it does
HadithiAI is an AI-powered storytelling platform that generates African folktales, riddles, and cultural narratives through interactive voice conversations. Users can:
- Listen to dynamically generated African stories
- Play cultural riddle games with multiple-choice answers
- Interact with the AI through voice in real time
- Explore stories categorized by cultural region
The system uses intelligent AI agents to generate narratives and riddles while maintaining a structured format that can be easily integrated into applications.
How we built it
The system is powered by a real-time AI orchestration backend that integrates live audio interaction with generative AI models.
Key components include:
- A real-time audio streaming system for voice interaction
- AI storytelling and riddle agents A backend orchestration API
- REST endpoints for structured content generation
- WebSocket streaming for live conversation The platform uses Google's generative AI technologies for real-time narration and text generation, combined with a backend designed for scalable cloud deployment.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was managing real-time audio streaming while ensuring smooth interaction with the AI model. Other challenges included:
- Preventing background noise from interrupting narration
- Ensuring stories were generated as natural narratives rather than technical outputs
- Designing a riddle system with structured multiple-choice answers
- Managing real-time audio streaming and concurrency Solving these challenges required redesigning parts of the audio pipeline, implementing voice activity detection, and refining the prompts used by the AI agents.

We also gained valuable experience working with real-time voice AI systems, streaming architectures, and cloud deployment for scalable AI applications. Most importantly, we explored how modern AI technologies can be used to preserve and share cultural heritage in innovative ways.
