Inspiration
Due to the university loans, housing etc many young adults are now feeling overwhelmed and desperately need help with budgeting. This has inspired us to create a web app that will allow users to better control their own finances.
What it does
Budget. Now is a web app that helps you establish a personalised budgeting plan according to your own financial needs and goals. It allows users to allocate a certain amount of money to each category of expenses before spending, as well as planning ahead for saving up for future goals, which are all recorded and can be tracked in the summary.
How we built it
In the planning stage, we began by discussing our wireframe for the website and the important elements and functionality that should be included in the web app in order to maximise the usability of the application. Then, we moved onto the building stage where we designed the layout and base of the website by using html and css. Javascript was then added to implement the logic behind our budgeting app so that it functioned as required.
Challenges
Some of the challenges that we faced as a team include lack of communication at times. In addition to this I think we all struggled a bit more with the javascript than the front-end part of the code overall. We also had an issue with linking our javascript/ CSS files into our HTML files which we later managed to fix.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a team of first years with no experience in hackathons, we are very proud to have been able to come together in a matter of 4 days and produced what we have.
What we learned
We have learned to communicate more and potentially even work on our skillsets more before commencing our next hackathon.
