Inspiration
Inspired by our own struggles with finding teammates during the virtual 2021 MLH RoboHacks Hackathon, we set out to create a platform that would simplify this common problem of all virtual hackathons.
What it does
HackySack is like a dating site-- but better. Instead of searching for people to grab coffee with on a Saturday morning, users can find ideal teammates for hackathons! Users create a profile and request to find matches for their chosen hackathon!
How we built it
The backend development is built by Python scripts. The frontend development is built by CSS, HTML, SCSS, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was a beginner's mistake on our part. A remote hackathon + a team full of first-time hackers = posting our Google Cloud Service key on GitHub for each other, but also for the random hacker in Europe. Thankfully, Google restricted their access when they tried to use the Google Engine for cryptocurrency mining. But all in all, lessons were learned and security was increased.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This team was mainly first-time hackers. We are proud of our first project!
